Chari Lynn Reithmeier - Artist Statement I work in many media choosing the materials that suit the project and my mood. I focus on colour, shape and texture as these are the elements that excite me the most. My drawings and paintings that feature shells display my fascination with these natural objects and my attempt to express the beauty and sensuousness I observe within. Lately I have become intrigued by the concept of taking a drawing of mine and transforming it into a beaded tapestry. As I build a piece, watching as the image is created row by row, the beauty of tiny glass beads being used as pixels creates within me a sense of wonderment and joy. Combining all my artistic pleasures is done through fibre art; I use fabric, beads, buttons, found objects silk, cotton threads, wool, I incorporate drawings and whatever else suits the piece to create Fibre Collage. With the rich history of needle arts, sometimes the only outlet women of the past had to express themselves, I consider this work to be a celebration of the feminine, an acknowledgment of the creativity of women of the past a celebration of the present and hope for the future.
